The purpose of The Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science is to stimulate scientific research and education; to disseminate scientific knowledge in the various fields of science; to promote fraternal relationships among those engaged in scientific work; to assist in developing and in making known the material and other resources of those two states; to encourage the publication of reports of scientific investigations; and to unify the scientific interests of the region.

Privacy

The Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science (ANAS) respects the privacy of all visitors to our website. The Academy collects personal and demographic information for internal use only from the following individuals:

New and Renewing Members
Membership information is used only for official communication from the Academy. Email addresses are added to the organizational listserve which is used only for occasional internal announcements such as membership renewals, reminders of upcoming award and/or registration deadlines, and announcements of important web page changes. Personal contact information is not shared with any other organizations or available online. Members may always contact the membership secretary to opt off of the distribution list.
Applications for Awards and Scholarships
Identifying information collected from scholarship and award applicants is shared only with the members of the respective selection committees and ultimately the college or university receiving the funds on the recipients behalf.

In addition to notifying winners and their schools, award recipients are publicly announced at the ANAS annual business meeting and awards luncheon. Their names, sometimes photos and a brief biographical sketch of their accomplishments are included in the meeting's printed Proceedings volume which is received in hard copy by all attendees and by subscribing libraries. The Proceedings is also available online. The same summaries of winners are included in the organization's online Newsletter .

Students/teachers are asked for permission to distribute this information on their application forms; granting permission is not a condition of receipt of the award.

Applicants will be contacted only with respect to the award selection and granting process; they will not receive any extraneous emails or solicitations from the Academy. Their contact information will not be added to an organizational distribution list and is not shared with any other organizations or available online.
Presenters and Other Registrants for Annual Meeting
Meeting registrants' contact information is shared only amongst members of the Academy organizing the meeting. As is usual and customary, presenters' names and institutions are published in an online newsletter and meeting Proceedings which is distributed both in printed and online formats. In addition, the papers of those presenting int Hydrology section are available as part of Hydrology and Water Resources in Arizona and the Southwest via a University of Arizona repository.

Investigators Submitting Manuscripts
Authors' contact information is shared only amongst the journal's editors. As is usual and customary, authors' names and institutions are published along with their work in JANAS. JANAS is distributed to members and subscribing libraries in print form and is also available online through BioOne and JSTOR. Release of this information is a requisite for publication.

All communication with authors from the Academy will be with regards to the journal. Individuals' contact information will not be added to an organizational distribution list and is not shared with any other organizations or available online.

Conflict of Interest

The Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science (ANAS), its affiliates and all officers, directors, session chairs, supervisors, board and committee members scrupulously shall avoid any conflict between their own respective personal, professional or business interests and the interests of the academy, in any and all actions taken by them on behalf of the academy in their respective capacities.

In the event that any Officer, Director, Session Chair, Supervisor, Board or Committee member of the ANAS shall have any direct or indirect interest in, or relationship with, any individual or organization which proposes to enter into any transaction with the Academy, including but not limited to transactions involving:

A the sale, purchase, lease or rental of any property or other asset;
B employment, or rendition of services, personal or otherwise;
C the award of any grant, scholarship, or prize;
D the investment or deposit of any funds of the Academy;

such person shall give notice of such interest or relationship and shall thereafter refrain from discussing or voting on the particular transaction in which the person has an interest, or otherwise attempting to exert any influence on the ANAS or its affiliates to affect a decision to participate or not participate in such transaction.

Journal Editorial

The Journal of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science (ISSN 0193-8509 print; 1533-6085 online) is published principally by and for the members of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science. It is the intention of the Editorial Board that the Journal shall serve all members, and publications are not restricted to formal, original scientific papers. The Editorial Board will decide the material to be included in each issue and will use its prerogative to edit all published items.

The Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science is a nonprofit organization, and publication costs for its journal are subsidized in part by page charges. Page charges for ANAS members are $15.00 per page up to eight pages and $30.00 per page for each additional page. Page charges for nonmembers are $30.00 per page. Contributors without grant support may request waiver of page charges.

The Journal of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science is registered with the Copyright Clearance Center. To obtain rights and permission for business, electronic, classroom, or other academic use of content, please visit this link.
