About us

Incorporated in 1956, the purpose of The Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science is to stimulate scientific research and education; to disseminate scientific knowledge in the various fields of science; to promote fraternal relationships among those engaged in scientific work; to assist in developing and in making known the material and other resources of those two states; to encourage the publication of reports of scientific investigations; to unify the scientific interests of the region; to encourage the publication of reports of scientific investigations; and to unify the scientific interests of the region.

ANAS is one of the 47 regional associations affiliated with AAAS.

Annual Meeting

Each Spring the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science hosts an interdisciplinary gathering at an academic institution in either Arizona or Nevada to discuss current research activities in science, mathematics, and engineering in the region.

Organization

Help support our mission, receive discounts on annual meetings, and free copy of the Journal of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science (JANAS) and reduced page charges.

Each year the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science presents an award to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the field of science education and a separate award to a elementary, middle school, and a senior high school teacher for outstanding accomplishments in the field of science education.

One of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science's primary missions is to recognize and stimulate achievement in science education and to foster scientific inquiry at all levels.

The Academy publishes two research journals - the peer-reviewed Journal of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science (JANAS) and an annual Proceedings volume listing abstracts of work presented at the Annual Meeting.

Each year the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science presents awards for exceptional teaching and leadership, as well as scholarships to select students in STEM fields.

Student Grants

FUNDING


The Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science provides research funding to students from high school up through graduate school. ANAS also offers travel grants, and poster printing reimbursements, for students presenting at the ANAS annual meeting.
